Purpose:
This article explains how to resolve the Counterpoint import error, "(WEBxx) Tax Code not on file."
Solution:
This very common error may occur during an import to Counterpoint, especially when setting up NRO for the first time. It just means that a specific tax code has not been defined for one of the orders being imported.
If you charge any sales taxes in your NRO store, then Counterpoint must be configured with a base tax code plus a tax code for each possible state or province from where your online orders might originate.
In other words, let's say your base tax code is WEB, and a shopper from Tennessee has placed an order. In that case, Counterpoint will be expecting a tax code called WEBTN in order to store the tax amount, even if the amount is 0.00. If there is no tax code in Counterpoint called WEBTN, then you will receive the error "Tax code record not on file".
For full instructions on setting up necessary tax codes, please refer to the, Setting Up Web Tax Codes training video or the Defining and Calculating Taxes KB article.
To determine which tax code was expected by CounterPoint, refer to the Counterpoint Ecommerce Import log (
System / Views / Events
).
After resolving the error, follow the steps below to process the part of the order that didn't complete due to the import error:
In Windows, open the CPONLINE folder within your Counterpoint company directory. You can easily find this by navigating to
Counterpoint / Setup / Ecommerce / Control / Main tab / Ecommerce directory
.
Locate the file exactly named CPOLTOCP.ERR
Rename it as CPOLTOCP.txt
Return to Counterpoint and run
Ecommerce / Import
again
