We have been analyzing the NCR Retail Online (NRO) business and our NCR Industry Solutions Board, an internal team that helps set strategy, has decided to set the NRO product to End of Life on March 31, 2018 . The CPOnline Product was also recently announced with an end of life date of September 30th, 2017 . The End of Life terms indicate that all current customers will need to be transitioned off their respective product and the servers turned off by 9/30/17 (CPO) & 3/31/18 (NRO) . Your NCR Counterpoint business partner has been notified of this decision in advance and has started taking steps to help you transition your eCommerce solution.

Configuring Store Pickup Options in WooCommerce with Counterpoint LocationsFor Australian merchants moving away from NCR Retail Online, rebuilding the pickup experience inside a modern storefront is one of the most practical first steps. WooCommerce offers built-in local pickup functionality, but tying it to live stock counts in NCR Counterpoint is what turns a simple "collect in store" button into a reliable fulfilment channel for shoppers in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, and the regional centres scattered in between. Done poorly, store pickup becomes a source of customer complaints about stock being promised but unavailable on arrival. The reason pickup matters more in Australia than in many other markets comes down to geography. With vast distances between population centres and a strong cultural preference for clicking and collecting rather than waiting for a courier, configuring pickup correctly through WooCommerce and Counterpoint can directly lift conversion at checkout and reduce the cost of Australia Post Parcel Collect handovers. Why Local Pickup Matters for Australian RetailersClick and collect has become a default expectation among Australian shoppers, partly because of the country's sprawling geography and partly because of how deeply embedded the practice is in retail chains from Brisbane to Hobart. When a customer at checkout sees a pickup option next to standard shipping, the decision to buy is often made in that single moment. The financial case is just as compelling. Avoiding a courier leg on a bulky appliance, a small kitchen item from the kitchen accessories appliances catalogue, or a piece of outdoor gear saves the merchant anywhere from a few dollars to more than twenty on a single order. Multiply that across a year of orders and the savings fund a second hire at the collection counter. Local pickup also gives the merchant a chance to upsell at handover. A customer coming in to collect a pre-ordered espresso machine is far more likely to grab a bag of beans on the way out than someone waiting for a delivery driver. The key is making pickup trustworthy enough that customers are willing to drive to it, which means stock accuracy, clear timing, and a smooth handover process.
Connecting Counterpoint Inventory to WooCommerce Local PickupCounterpoint stores stock counts at the SKU and location level, which is precisely the granularity WooCommerce Local Pickup needs. The standard integration path uses NCR's partner connectors or a middleware layer such as a REST bridge that pushes inventory deltas into WooCommerce in near real time. Once the two speak the same language, the "in stock at this location" message shown to shoppers reflects the floor reality. Before turning the sync on, map every Counterpoint location to a WooCommerce pickup location. A retailer with stores in Parramatta, Chadstone, Fortitude Valley, and Canning Vale should have four pickup entries, each tied to the correct warehouse or store code. Naming conventions matter: customers expect to see suburb and state, not internal codes like "WH-04" or "ST-NRTH". Stock should refresh often enough that a Saturday morning shopper in Perth does not see an item available only because a Friday night sale was missed by the sync window. Most Australian retailers settle on a five-minute refresh during trading hours and a longer interval overnight. If your store also runs abandoned-cart recovery, a guide on rebuilding abandoned cart emails in your new platform walks through the cart-token mechanics that often break during a platform migration. Setting Up Pickup Locations in WooCommerceWithin WooCommerce, navigate to Settings, Shipping, then add a new shipping zone that covers Australia. Inside that zone, add "Local Pickup" as a method, then duplicate it once for every Counterpoint location you mapped earlier. Each duplicate becomes a pickup point with its own address, suburb, postcode, and supporting notes. Give every location a customer-facing label that reads naturally. "Pickup at Brisbane CBD Flagship" works better than "Store 12". Add an instruction field for parking details, after-hours collection lockers, or trade-only counters. For stores that operate in regional Western Australia, where customers often travel long distances, include clear directions and an estimated time window. Make sure each location method is set to "Enable" individually rather than relying on a global toggle. This lets you disable a single site temporarily — for stocktakes in Adelaide or a refit in Geelong — without pulling the option from the entire network. Configuring Pickup Fees, Lead Times, and Customer NotificationsMost Australian merchants charge nothing for pickup, treating it as a free alternative to a $9.95 flat-rate parcel. Where a fee is set, it should be modest and shown before checkout, not as a surprise at confirmation. GST-inclusive pricing is required, so always quote the final figure the customer will pay. Lead times deserve as much care as fees. A pickup option that promises "ready in 2 hours" but routinely takes a day will erode trust faster than no option at all. Tie the displayed time to the Counterpoint location's typical picking speed and update it seasonally — a Melbourne store running a Boxing Day sale will not hit the same numbers as a quiet Tuesday in July. Email notifications should confirm the pickup point, the trading hours, and what the customer needs to bring. Order ID and matching photo ID are standard. If the merchant uses a separate system to send SMS pickup alerts, integrate that flow so the customer receives a single coherent set of messages. A simple SMS handoff tool such as the Tubetextify tool can help support staff text a pickup code to a customer who has just arrived at the counter. Common pickup configuration choices:
Pitfalls to avoid when first switching on pickup:
Testing the End-to-End Pickup WorkflowBefore telling customers the option is live, run three real transactions. Place an order from a Sydney IP address selecting the Sydney CBD pickup, confirm the stock count drops by one at that location only, and walk through the collection process with a staff member at the counter. Repeat for a regional postcode and for a location that is temporarily closed. Verify that the order shows up correctly inside Counterpoint with the right store code attached. Verify that the WooCommerce order status moves from "Processing" to "Ready for Pickup" once the store marks it collected from the back room. Verify that the customer receives both the WooCommerce notification and any SMS that sits on top of it. Run a final test on a mobile device, since the majority of Australian shoppers place orders on phones. Confirm the pickup selector is tappable, that the suburb appears correctly, and that the map snippet (if you include one) points to the right pin. A pickup flow that works on desktop but breaks on an iPhone in a Brisbane carpark is a pickup flow that loses sales. If your store also offers satellite alignment tools or other technical gear for tradies, the same pickup logic can carry niche SKUs alongside mainstream stock. The process of fine-tuning azimuth with SatPointer is unrelated but illustrates how WooCommerce can host mixed product catalogues from a single backend. Start by mapping every Counterpoint location to its WooCommerce counterpart this week, then enable pickup at one flagship store in Sydney for the first seven days before rolling the option out across the rest of the network. |
