We have been analyzing the NCR Retail Online (NRO) business and our NCR Industry Solutions Board, an internal team that helps set strategy, has decided to set the NRO product to End of Life on March 31, 2018 . The CPOnline Product was also recently announced with an end of life date of September 30th, 2017 . The End of Life terms indicate that all current customers will need to be transitioned off their respective product and the servers turned off by 9/30/17 (CPO) & 3/31/18 (NRO) . Your NCR Counterpoint business partner has been notified of this decision in advance and has started taking steps to help you transition your eCommerce solution.

How to manage multi-currency pricing after NCR Retail Online

Leaving NCR Retail Online involves more than moving product pages and customer accounts to Magento, WooCommerce, or another ecommerce platform. Currency settings can affect catalog prices, payment authorization, tax calculations, shipping charges, refunds, promotions, reporting, and the way customers interpret regional offers.

The safest approach is to treat currency migration as a pricing project rather than a simple configuration task. Before the new storefront goes live, document how prices were stored, which markets were served, how exchange rates were applied, and whether customers saw converted prices or market-specific amounts.

A controlled process also protects customer trust. Shoppers should see consistent prices from the product page through checkout, while staff should be able to explain differences between currencies, billing locations, taxes, and card charges without relying on manual workarounds.

Establish your currency baseline

Start by creating an inventory of every market, currency, and sales channel connected to the former NCR Retail Online store. Record the default currency, supported currencies, price lists, tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive display rules, payment gateways, shipping zones, and refund procedures. Include marketplaces, point-of-sale systems, subscription tools, and accounting software that may have received order data.

Next, determine whether your old store used live exchange rates, scheduled rate updates, or fixed regional pricing. These methods produce different results. A live conversion may make a product fluctuate daily, while a fixed price list gives customers predictable amounts but requires periodic review. Your replacement platform should reproduce the intended commercial policy rather than simply copy a currency dropdown.

Export historical orders and reports before changing anything. Order totals, discounts, taxes, shipping fees, and refunds should retain their original transaction currency. Converting old records into the new base currency can make financial reconciliation difficult and may create misleading year-over-year comparisons.

Rebuild catalog prices with clear rules

Choose a base currency for administration and define how regional prices will be generated. A common model is to maintain a master price, apply an approved exchange rate, then add a market adjustment for duties, operating costs, or local positioning. Another model is to maintain separate price books for each currency. The right choice depends on how often prices change and how much control merchandising teams need.

Rounding deserves special attention. A raw conversion can produce awkward values such as £37.18 or ¥6,842. Decide whether prices should end in .00, .95, .99, or another local convention, and apply the rule consistently to regular prices, sale prices, bundles, and volume discounts. Make sure the system calculates discounts from the displayed regional price rather than from an unrounded hidden value.

Use representative products to test the catalog import. A varied product such as a dishware listing can help reveal issues with decimal precision, variant pricing, shipping weight, and localized content. Test low-cost goods, high-value goods, products with options, and items subject to different tax treatment.

Align checkout, payments, and tax

Currency display and currency settlement are separate decisions. A storefront may show prices in euros while a payment provider settles funds in dollars, or it may authorize and settle directly in the shopper’s selected currency. Confirm which currencies each gateway supports, what foreign-exchange markup applies, and whether the final charge can differ from the amount shown during checkout.

Review every checkout component after the migration. The cart, discount code, shipping estimator, tax line, order confirmation, invoice, payment receipt, and refund screen should use the same currency and decimal format. Pay particular attention to free-shipping thresholds and minimum order values, which can become incorrect when a rule remains tied to the former base currency.

Area Decision to document Validation check
Catalog Fixed regional price or converted price Compare displayed amounts with approved price books
Exchange rates Live, scheduled, or manual rate source Confirm update timing and audit history
Rounding Decimal precision and psychological pricing rule Test regular, sale, and bundle prices
Payments Authorization and settlement currencies Run a test transaction and refund
Tax Inclusive or exclusive presentation Compare cart, invoice, and tax report
Shipping Currency-specific thresholds and fees Test several destinations and order values
Reporting Transaction, settlement, and base currencies Reconcile an order across systems

Tax configuration should be reviewed by market rather than copied globally. A platform may display tax-inclusive prices in one region and add tax at checkout in another. Currency conversion does not determine tax liability, so confirm registration requirements, tax rounding, digital product rules, and invoice content independently.

Preserve customer support continuity

Currency confusion often appears first in customer service. A shopper may ask why a refund is smaller than the original card charge, why a bank converted the amount differently, or why a promotion is unavailable in a particular region. Prepare support agents with examples that distinguish storefront pricing, payment authorization, bank conversion, and refund timing.

The move away from NCR Retail Online can change ticket routing, order lookups, and customer history at the same time as currency behavior changes. Review the support workflow impact before launch, and ensure agents can find the original currency, exchange rate, order total, tax, and refund amount in one place.

Create saved responses for common scenarios, but avoid promising an exchange rate that your business does not control. Explain that a card issuer or bank may apply its own rate and fees. For partial refunds, canceled items, split shipments, and gift cards, document exactly how the new platform calculates the amount returned.

Update marketing and regional merchandising

Currency changes can affect more than transactional pages. Email campaigns, abandoned-cart messages, paid advertising feeds, product comparison tools, affiliate links, and social commerce catalogs may retain old prices or default to the wrong currency. Audit every integration that imports product data or generates a checkout link.

Marketing automation should receive the customer’s market and currency as structured data. This prevents a subscriber in Canada from receiving a U.S. dollar offer or a customer who browsed in euros from seeing a different amount in an abandoned-cart email. When integrating email tools, verify currency fields, price formatting, discount logic, and unsubscribe or consent records together.

Regional merchandising also needs a governance rule. Decide who approves exchange-rate changes, who reviews price competitiveness, and how quickly a promotion is updated across channels. If product feeds are cached, document the refresh schedule so a price change does not appear on the storefront before it reaches advertising or email.

Test the migration before switching traffic

Build a test matrix that covers every supported currency, device type, payment method, shipping zone, and major customer journey. Test guest checkout, account checkout, coupon redemption, returns, exchanges, gift cards, preorders, subscriptions, and failed payments. Include a product with no decimal fractions, a product with multiple variants, and a high-value item that may trigger payment or fraud checks.

Perform the tests in a staging environment using realistic rates and regional addresses. Compare the old order records with the new platform’s order, payment, tax, and accounting outputs. Do not rely on a successful card authorization alone; a transaction can succeed while the settlement currency, invoice, or inventory export is wrong.

After launch, monitor currency-specific metrics for several weeks. Track conversion rate, checkout abandonment, payment declines, refund discrepancies, average order value, and support contacts by market. Keep the former system’s exports and rate records available for reconciliation, while limiting access to sensitive customer information.

Set practical controls for ongoing pricing

Once the replacement store is stable, document a recurring review process. Exchange-rate changes should trigger checks of margin, promotions, shipping thresholds, and price comparisons. A small currency movement may not require an immediate catalog change, while a major movement can make a market unprofitable even when order volume looks healthy.

Use these operating recommendations:

  • Assign one owner for currency policy, with finance, merchandising, and ecommerce stakeholders involved in approvals.
  • Keep a dated record of exchange rates, regional price adjustments, rounding rules, and effective times.
  • Reconcile gateway settlements, refunds, tax reports, and accounting entries in both transaction and base currencies.
  • Review automated feeds and campaigns after every price-list or currency-configuration change.
  • Train support staff to explain bank conversion, payment settlement, and business pricing as separate events.

A reliable multi-currency setup should make pricing predictable for shoppers and auditable for your team. It should also remain flexible enough to support new regions without forcing staff to edit every product manually. Magento, WooCommerce, and other platforms can support that model when currency settings, integrations, and operational ownership are designed together.

Use the transition from NCR Retail Online as an opportunity to establish cleaner pricing governance. Audit the catalog, test the full purchase lifecycle, and publish the new currency policy before directing customers to the replacement storefront. With those controls in place, your business can preserve trust across markets while gaining a more manageable foundation for future ecommerce growth.

After you have completed your move to a new eCommerce platform, don’t forget to submit the Store Closure Request form to close your NRO site and cancel your billing subscription.
