We have been analyzing the NCR Retail Online (NRO) business and our NCR Industry Solutions Board, an internal team that helps set strategy, has decided to set the NRO product to End of Life on March 31, 2018 . The CPOnline Product was also recently announced with an end of life date of September 30th, 2017 . The End of Life terms indicate that all current customers will need to be transitioned off their respective product and the servers turned off by 9/30/17 (CPO) & 3/31/18 (NRO) . Your NCR Counterpoint business partner has been notified of this decision in advance and has started taking steps to help you transition your eCommerce solution.

Moving NCR Abandoned Cart Emails to Klaviyo or MailchimpNCR Retail Online has been discontinued, leaving retailers that used its online-store integration to move their store, inventory workflows and marketing assets elsewhere. Abandoned-cart campaigns are often moved to Magento or WooCommerce through NCR Counterpoint partners, while email delivery shifts to Klaviyo, Mailchimp or another marketing platform. Transferring NCR’s abandoned cart email templates is therefore more than copying HTML. NCR templates may rely on proprietary product fields, old image paths, checkout parameters, coupon rules and server-side links. Klaviyo and Mailchimp also structure automations differently, so the visual email can be reproduced while its data bindings, trigger and revenue tracking must be rebuilt and tested. Klaviyo is generally the stronger ecommerce specialist, with event-led flows, catalogue data and deeper revenue reporting. Mailchimp can suit retailers that want email alongside broader audience campaigns, provided its connected-store and journey features cover the required WooCommerce or Magento workflow. The choice depends on the commerce stack and the team maintaining it, not merely the template design. Australian shoppers expect prices in Australian dollars, GST-inclusive totals, realistic delivery information and mobile-friendly messages. A careful migration starts with an inventory of templates and checkout links, then maps customer consent, product identifiers and cart events to the new platform. It finishes with end-to-end testing across devices, time zones and Australian payment, shipping and promotional practices. What changes when NCR Retail Online closesThe old platform’s editor and merge-tag syntax are unlikely to transfer cleanly. A subject line, preheader, branded layout and product block can be recreated, but dynamic fields such as cart value, item name, quantity, image URL and discount code must use identifiers recognised by the destination platform. Any absolute links pointing to NCR-hosted pages should be updated before a campaign is activated. Visual references remain useful even after the service ends. The former home decor example shows the kind of category-specific merchandising and imagery that should be catalogued, while live product details should come from the current WooCommerce or Magento catalogue rather than being frozen into an email. This avoids a polished message promoting unavailable stock or obsolete pricing. Automation is the larger change. NCR may have created an abandoned-cart email and its follow-up sequence as part of the store environment; Klaviyo or Mailchimp needs equivalent triggers, waiting periods, audience rules and exit events. Send timing should reflect the shop’s operating pattern: NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia sit in different time zones, and a national online store can trade around the clock. Audit templates, data and checkout linksCreate an asset register before touching the account. For each email, record its subject and preheader, send delay, audience, product or collection rules, discount logic, footer, images, destination links and tracking parameters. Include mobile and plain-text versions if they exist. This register becomes the acceptance criteria for the rebuilt campaign rather than a loose checklist of visual details. Customer data needs a separate audit. Export the fields available from NCR, identify which records have valid marketing consent, and map names, email addresses, phone numbers, order history, preferences and storefront identifiers into Klaviyo or Mailchimp. Under the Spam Act 2003, commercial email needs a clear unsubscribe path and accurate sender details; the Privacy Act 1988 also shapes how personal information is collected, used and secured. Avoid importing stale subscribers merely to preserve list size. Remove legacy accounts, protect administrator access with multi-factor authentication and do not transfer passwords. Content outside the email also has dependencies. NCR’s migration guidance covers moving blog and content into a new CMS, which is useful for landing pages linked from cart messages. Confirm that every article, collection page, policy page and return URL remains available, accessible and indexed appropriately. Where a URL changes, add a permanent redirect and preserve campaign parameters without exposing personal data. Rebuild emails and automation for ecommerceRebuild in the new editor rather than pasting the old design into every campaign. Establish reusable brand styles for typography, colour, buttons and spacing, then recreate each template as a responsive message with a legible plain-text alternative. Preview them in Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail and mobile clients. A friendly Australian tone can work, but clarity matters more than slang: “Your cart is still here” is direct, while “no worries” should appear only if it suits the brand. Connect the ecommerce platform so the campaign receives live cart, product, customer and order events. Klaviyo can receive catalogue and cart data through supported Magento or WooCommerce integrations and its event API; Mailchimp can use connected-store and journey tools or a partner integration. Test the connection with low-value transactions, confirm the checkout link restores the correct basket, and suppress recipients whose cart has already converted or whose item is unavailable. Keep promotions and inventory honest. Use A$ and display prices with 10% GST included where that is the merchant’s practice. Discount logic must match the WooCommerce or Magento coupon configuration, and gift cards, shipping thresholds and click-and-collect rules need their own exclusion rules. If the retailer lacks integration capacity, a provider such as Digisns ecommerce support can assist with implementation, but the merchant should own the field mapping and final sign-off. Compare the platforms before rebuildingKlaviyo’s native strength is ecommerce automation: event-based segmentation, product feeds, catalogue updates and flow reporting tied to purchases. It is usually the better fit for a retailer focused on cart recovery, replenishment, browse activity and customer lifetime value. A migration specialist can configure data mappings, but merchants remain responsible for consent, catalogue accuracy and the commercial offer sent to customers. Mailchimp is more attractive when the retailer wants one marketing suite for newsletters, campaigns, surveys and store-related journeys, or when its current integrations already cover the stack. Some ecommerce depth depends on the connected service or paid plan. Compare current feature and pricing details before choosing; an apparently lower subscription price can require extra apps, higher-volume charges or more internal maintenance.
Whichever platform is selected, insist on a shared launch standard: verified events, correct GST-inclusive values, working basket links, accessible unsubscribe controls and a documented rollback plan. This keeps the business protected if the commerce connection or product feed fails. A practical migration checklist for Australian retailersUse the following sequence to move the campaigns without losing revenue or customer trust. Keep one owner for each requirement, record where every old asset has moved and require approval from ecommerce, marketing and compliance teams before sending.
Before switching the live flow, place one test order, recover the cart, apply a promotion and complete checkout on a phone and desktop. Preserve the old templates only as an audit record. The practical takeaway is to treat the migration as an end-to-end commerce rebuild: protected customer data, accurate Australian pricing and stock, reliable basket links and platform-native automation will recover more value than a visually identical email alone. |
