We have been analyzing the NCR Retail Online (NRO) business and our NCR Industry Solutions Board, an internal team that helps set strategy, has decided to set the NRO product to End of Life on March 31, 2018 . The CPOnline Product was also recently announced with an end of life date of September 30th, 2017 . The End of Life terms indicate that all current customers will need to be transitioned off their respective product and the servers turned off by 9/30/17 (CPO) & 3/31/18 (NRO) . Managing Supplier Integrations After Leaving NCR Retail Online

Moving away from NCR Retail Online affects far more than the storefront. When the platform is discontinued, retailers must reassess the connections that move product data, purchase orders, shipment updates, invoices, and stock levels between suppliers and the rest of the business. A replacement ecommerce system may look successful on the surface while critical supplier workflows remain fragile underneath.

The transition is therefore an integration project, an operational change, and a data-governance exercise at the same time. Retailers using NCR Counterpoint partners, Magento, WooCommerce, or another commerce platform need a deliberate plan for preserving supplier communication while updating the technology that supports it.

A well-managed migration can also eliminate unnecessary manual work. It provides an opportunity to standardize vendor records, improve replenishment visibility, strengthen security, and make supplier performance easier to measure.

Establish Scope And Ownership

Begin by defining every supplier-related activity that currently depends on NCR Retail Online. This may include product imports, pricing updates, availability feeds, purchase orders, order acknowledgements, shipment notices, invoices, returns, and supplier catalog maintenance. Include connections that appear informal, such as spreadsheets emailed to staff and files uploaded manually to shared folders.

Assign an owner to each process. The merchandising team may understand product attributes, purchasing may own vendor terms, warehouse staff may manage receiving data, and finance may depend on invoice matching. A technical lead should coordinate the integration architecture, but business owners must confirm what the data means and how it is used.

Create a transition register with the supplier name, connection method, data exchanged, update frequency, credentials, business owner, and replacement status. This simple record helps prevent overlooked vendors from becoming a source of stock errors after the old platform is switched off.

Inventory Current Supplier Connections

Supplier integrations often rely on a mixture of APIs, EDI, CSV files, SFTP transfers, email attachments, and custom scripts. Document the actual process rather than relying on old specifications. Protect Inventory, Orders, And Customer Data

Each scenario should have an expected result and a named person responsible for checking it.

The supplier may be the source for wholesale availability, while the warehouse system controls sellable stock and the ecommerce platform publishes the customer-facing quantity. Document who can authorize manual changes and how those changes will be entered into the system afterward.

After the migration, treat supplier connectivity as a managed business capability rather than a one-time technical task. Supplier APIs change, catalogs evolve, and warehouse procedures shift. Scheduled reviews help identify small inconsistencies before they become customer-facing failures.

  • Reconcile supplier inventory, store inventory, and warehouse stock on a defined schedule.
  • Alert named staff when files are late, records fail validation, or acknowledgements are missing.
  • Review supplier credentials, permissions, and inactive connections at least quarterly.
  • Test high-risk scenarios after major platform, connector, or supplier changes.
  • Track integration performance through order accuracy, fill rate, processing time, and exception volume.

Store mapping documentation in a shared, controlled location rather than inside one employee’s inbox. Include sample files, transformation rules, escalation contacts, and a change history. This reduces dependency on individual knowledge and makes future supplier onboarding faster.

Move Forward With Measurable Control

Leaving NCR Retail Online is an opportunity to replace hidden dependencies with visible, supportable processes. Retailers that document their supplier network, choose an appropriate integration layer, test real-world exceptions, and train staff can protect continuity while gaining better control over stock and order data.

Start with the supplier register and prioritize connections that affect fast-moving products, high-value orders, and customer delivery promises. Then validate the replacement workflow with suppliers and internal teams before expanding the rollout. A disciplined transition turns platform discontinuation into a stronger foundation for ecommerce operations.
