We have been analyzing the NCR Retail Online (NRO) business and our NCR Industry Solutions Board, an internal team that helps set strategy, has decided to set the NRO product to End of Life on March 31, 2018 . The CPOnline Product was also recently announced with an end of life date of September 30th, 2017 . The End of Life terms indicate that all current customers will need to be transitioned off their respective product and the servers turned off by 9/30/17 (CPO) & 3/31/18 (NRO) . Your NCR Counterpoint business partner has been notified of this decision in advance and has started taking steps to help you transition your eCommerce solution.

Moving Wholesale Price Tiers Beyond NCR Retail Online

NCR Retail Online connected ecommerce selling with retail inventory, automated operations and business management tools. Since the product has been discontinued, retailers and wholesalers must move their catalogue, customer accounts and pricing rules to a supported platform, commonly Magento or WooCommerce through an NCR Counterpoint partner.

Migrating wholesale pricing tiers from NCR Retail Online requires more care than exporting a product list. A tier may depend on customer type, order quantity, brand, location, tax treatment or an account-specific agreement. The safest approach is to document how prices worked, preserve the commercial intent, and rebuild those rules in the replacement store before customers are moved across.

Map Existing Wholesale Rules

Start by creating a pricing register from NCR Retail Online exports, order history and current account records. Record each SKU, standard retail price, wholesale price, minimum quantity, customer group, discount percentage and effective date. If a product has several pack sizes, capture the unit of sale as well as the carton or pallet quantity.

Wholesale structures often contain exceptions that are easy to miss. A café may receive a different price from a garden centre, while a buying group may have an agreed discount across selected brands. Seasonal promotions, clearance prices and manually negotiated rates should be marked separately from permanent tiers.

Use real orders to test the register. Compare invoices from several customer types and look for freight-inclusive prices, tax-exclusive quotes or discounts applied at checkout. This provides a practical baseline before any Magento or WooCommerce pricing extension is configured.

Clean Products And Customer Accounts

Pricing migration will be unreliable if product data is inconsistent. Standardise SKUs, barcodes, product names, pack descriptions and units of measure before importing them. Remove discontinued products, merge duplicate records and ensure each variation has a unique identifier.

Customer accounts need the same treatment. Match duplicate businesses using trading name, billing email, ABN and delivery address, while retaining the correct account number where it is used internally. Keep separate records for branches if each branch has its own credit limit or delivery arrangement.

Australian businesses should check how GST is represented in the source data. A wholesale customer may expect a quote excluding GST, while the online storefront displays a GST-inclusive price to a general shopper. The migration must preserve the correct tax configuration and produce invoices that align with Australian tax obligations.

Translate Tiers Into Platform Rules

A pricing tier should be expressed as a clear rule rather than copied as an unexplained percentage. For example, “Trade customers receive $18 per carton when ordering 10 or more cartons” is easier to validate than “Tier 3, 22%.” Define whether the discount applies before tax, before a promotion or after a coupon.

Magento can support customer groups, catalogue price rules, shared catalogues and quantity-based pricing, depending on the edition and implementation. WooCommerce commonly uses roles, membership tools, wholesale extensions and dynamic pricing rules. The correct setup depends on whether customers need account-specific price lists, volume breaks or negotiated product prices.

Avoid recreating every old workaround. If a legacy rule existed only because NCR Retail Online lacked a particular feature, replace it with a simpler rule where commercial policy allows. Keep a written mapping between the old tier name and the new customer group so staff can explain price changes consistently.

Protect Account-Specific Pricing

Some wholesale prices are confidential. A customer should see only the products and rates assigned to their account after signing in. Public catalogue pages can show recommended retail pricing, while trade users see their approved price list once authentication and account status have been verified.

Import permissions carefully. A customer group may control price visibility, product access, minimum order quantities and payment terms. It should not automatically grant access to every wholesale function. Review administrator roles, sales representative access and export permissions during the same project.

Security matters during the transition because price files often contain commercially sensitive information. Transfer data through protected channels, restrict temporary files, and remove unused administrator accounts. Test password resets, two-factor authentication where available, session expiry and failed-login controls before opening the new store.

Preserve Stock And Order Behaviour

Wholesale pricing is closely connected to inventory. A discounted price that can be ordered for an unavailable item creates customer service problems, especially when stock is split across a warehouse in Melbourne, a supplier in Brisbane and a branch in Perth. Confirm how the replacement platform receives stock updates and how reservations are handled.

Document backorders, minimum order quantities, carton rounding and split shipments. If a customer must buy six units at a time, the checkout should prevent an order for seven if that would create an impractical leftover carton. If mixed quantities are permitted, the rule should be explicit and visible.

Category presentation also deserves attention. A retailer selling gardening equipment may want trade buyers to browse lawn and garden products by brand, application or pack size rather than by internal stock code. These merchandising choices affect how easily customers find the products to which their wholesale tiers apply.

Test Australian Checkout Scenarios

Build a test matrix using representative Australian accounts. Include a GST-registered business in Sydney, a regional customer near Toowoomba, a wholesale buyer in Adelaide and a customer ordering from Tasmania. Check prices, delivery zones, freight charges, tax and payment terms for each case.

Run orders at every important boundary: one unit below the minimum, exactly at the threshold and one unit above it. Test two different products in the same category, a product with no wholesale discount, an account with a negotiated price and an item affected by a promotion. Compare the result with the approved pricing register.

Seasonality should be tested as well. Australian retailers may plan stock around Christmas trading, summer holidays or end-of-financial-year purchasing. A store selling seasonal merchandise should ensure that a Christmas range, such as Christmas gift lines, does not accidentally inherit a permanent trade discount intended for everyday stock.

Manage Cutover And Reconciliation

Choose a cutover date that gives staff time to learn the new process and avoids a major sales period. Freeze changes to price lists for a short window, take a final export, and record any orders placed between the first migration and the switch. A staged launch can allow internal users and selected wholesale accounts to validate the store before general access.

After import, reconcile record counts and totals. Compare the number of products, active customers, price rules, tax classes and open orders. Select sample accounts from each tier and calculate expected line totals manually. Check that discounts have not been rounded incorrectly and that freight or payment surcharges have not been absorbed into the product price.

The following comparison helps frame the choice of replacement approach:

Requirement Magento WooCommerce
Customer groups Strong native structure and shared catalogue options Usually managed through roles or wholesale extensions
Complex quantity pricing Suitable for detailed catalogue and volume rules Achievable with compatible pricing extensions
Account-specific price lists Well suited to large B2B catalogues Possible, but plugin selection is critical
Implementation effort Typically higher and more technical Often faster for smaller teams
Inventory integration Strong when properly configured with business systems Flexible, with integration quality depending on the setup
Best fit Large catalogues and complex wholesale operations Smaller or mid-sized businesses seeking flexibility

Keep NCR Counterpoint or the selected business system as the authoritative source for stock, customer status and financial records where appropriate. The ecommerce platform should receive approved data on a defined schedule rather than becoming a second uncontrolled pricing database.

The essential point is that a successful migration preserves the meaning of every wholesale agreement, not merely the numbers in an export. Clean data, explicit tier rules, secure customer access, Australian tax settings and repeated checkout tests provide the foundation for dependable wholesale selling after NCR Retail Online has been retired.

After you have completed your move to a new eCommerce platform, don’t forget to submit the Store Closure Request form to close your NRO site and cancel your billing subscription.
