We have been analyzing the NCR Retail Online (NRO) business and our NCR Industry Solutions Board, an internal team that helps set strategy, has decided to set the NRO product to End of Life on March 31, 2018 . The CPOnline Product was also recently announced with an end of life date of September 30th, 2017 . The End of Life terms indicate that all current customers will need to be transitioned off their respective product and the servers turned off by 9/30/17 (CPO) & 3/31/18 (NRO) . Your NCR Counterpoint business partner has been notified of this decision in advance and has started taking steps to help you transition your eCommerce solution.

Next Steps

Branded Automated Order Emails for NCR Retail Stores

Setting up automated order confirmation emails that match NCR’s branding is a migration task as much as a design task. The message must confirm a real order, explain money and delivery clearly, and look credible on the small screens most Australian shoppers use. It should also remain recognisable while the underlying retail platform changes.

NCR Retail Online has been discontinued, so retailers moving through NCR Counterpoint partners to alternatives such as Magento and WooCommerce must rebuild the trigger, data and presentation layers rather than depend on legacy automations. A careful handover can preserve the customer experience and create a more dependable transactional system in the new environment.

Map orders to the right events

Begin by defining which business event should produce each message. An order confirmation usually belongs after the order is accepted and, where payment is required, authorised. Dispatch, delay, cancellation and refund notices need separate triggers. Map those events to the fields held by the ERP or inventory system so that one authorised order, rather than several loosely connected screens, remains the source of truth.

Because NCR Retail Online is no longer available, document what the legacy setup handled before rebuilding it on Magento, WooCommerce or a partner-led replacement. Teams comparing options can use NCR’s platform selection guidance to assess APIs, hosted commerce, operational fit and migration support. This inventory prevents a clean-looking email from hiding a gap in order, payment or stock data.

Give every automated send a stable event ID and design it to be idempotent, meaning a repeated webhook will not create a second customer email. The template should receive only necessary data: order number, Australian date and time, item names and quantities, delivery method, the address required by the shopper, payment status and final AUD total. Keep card details and unnecessary personal information out of both the template and its logs.

Create one clear branded template

Use only approved NCR brand assets: the current logo, colour palette, typography, imagery and footer wording. Apply the supplied values rather than estimating colours from a screenshot, and do not redraw or stretch the logo. Keep the design recognisable without letting decorative blocks compete with the order summary. A restrained layout usually renders more reliably across mobile clients and desktop mailboxes.

The email should open with a short acknowledgement, then show the order number, purchase date, items, quantities, delivery details, payment method, order total and a clear GST statement. Put the most useful details near the top, but also provide a well-structured plain-text version for people whose mail app cannot display the design. Every link should reach the intended order or policy with the minimum necessary sign-in.

Conditional content can reflect product categories instead of forcing every order into one block. The lawn and garden catalogue shows how seasonal and bulky ranges can require different delivery details; a mower may need a freight note while a packet of seeds follows standard parcel rules. Use the same approach for split shipments, backorders, store collection, digital products and partially refunded orders, hiding irrelevant fields rather than printing empty labels.

Connect the automation securely

In Magento or WooCommerce, the working flow is usually an order event, a background queue, a template renderer, an email provider and a delivery log. A production order event should be authenticated, validated and written to the queue before any customer message is sent. Test events should use separate data and addresses so that development traffic never reaches a live inbox, and failed sends should return to a controlled retry path rather than trigger manual duplicate emails.

Use a reputable transactional email service through its API or authenticated SMTP connection, then configure SPF, DKIM and DMARC for the sending domain. Monitor hard bounces, soft failures and complaints, and keep records long enough to reconcile a customer complaint with an order event. The message and logs should never contain full card numbers, passwords or unnecessary addresses. Authentication improves deliverability, but accurate sender identity and sensible frequency matter just as much.

Confine the first email to transactional facts: what was ordered, what was charged, what happens next and where to get help. Send dispatch, delay, cancellation and refund messages as separate lifecycle events with their own templates. This separation stops a warehouse update from overwriting the original confirmation and lets the team change one message without rewriting the entire customer journey.

Meet Australian customer expectations

Write in Australian English with a friendly, direct voice—“Thanks, we’ve got your order” is natural where “Dear valued customer” sounds impersonal. Show prices in AUD, state whether the 10% GST is included, and use day/month/year dates alongside Australian currency formatting. Avoid language that assumes every shopper is in one city; an order from Darwin, Hobart or Sydney should receive the correct delivery promise and local time reference.

Most messages will be read on a phone, so the order number, total and delivery estimate should remain visible without awkward horizontal scrolling. Delivery copy should distinguish Australian Post, courier and local collection, respect eastern, central and western Australian time zones, and account for daylight-saving changes and warehouse cut-offs. A confident but qualified estimate is safer than promising a date the store cannot keep.

Essential order information should not be confused with a marketing campaign. Bundling a voucher code or promotional offer into the confirmation can change how Australian Spam Act 2003 consent and unsubscribe obligations apply. Keep campaigns in a separate email stream, include the business identity and privacy link, and make sure cancellation, refund and return wording does not contradict the consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law.

Operational tools should not lock template work behind a mouse. Queue Music’s keyboard-only playlist workflow demonstrates a useful pattern for complex, multi-step creation: a keyboard user can reach every control, operate dialogs and finish the task without pointer input. Applying that discipline to template building and preview tools gives merchandisers an accessible path to maintaining the email.

Test, monitor, and maintain ownership

Run a structured test set before launch: successful payments, failed or pending payments, partial shipments, substitutions, cancellations, refunds, discounts, different GST treatments and long or unusual customer names. Check desktop and mobile clients, plain-text rendering, dark mode, every conditional block and each link. Use representative sample orders and have retail operations, customer service and marketing compare the rendered result with the source order.

After release, track delivery failures, complaints, confirmation latency, clicks to order details and repeated support questions about totals or delivery. Review results by template and customer segment, assign a named owner for content and configuration, and retain an audit trail of changes. During the transition away from NCR Retail Online, keep a mapping from legacy workflows to replacement events so support staff can trace what a customer received and when.

The thing to remember is that a branded order email succeeds only when the brand is accurate, the order data is trustworthy and the message arrives reliably. NCR’s visual identity earns attention, while disciplined automation and clear Australian communication keep the customer informed. In the post-NCR Retail Online environment, that combination turns a platform migration into a durable customer experience rather than a one-off template.

After you have completed your move to a new eCommerce platform, don’t forget to submit the Store Closure Request form to close your NRO site and cancel your billing subscription.
