We have been analyzing the NCR Retail Online (NRO) business and our NCR Industry Solutions Board, an internal team that helps set strategy, has decided to set the NRO product to End of Life on March 31, 2018 . The CPOnline Product was also recently announced with an end of life date of September 30th, 2017 . The End of Life terms indicate that all current customers will need to be transitioned off their respective product and the servers turned off by 9/30/17 (CPO) & 3/31/18 (NRO) . Your NCR Counterpoint business partner has been notified of this decision in advance and has started taking steps to help you transition your eCommerce solution.

Using Counterpoint Pricing Tables Across Multiple Online StoresRetailers often need one commercial rulebook for several digital storefronts. A fashion business might sell through its main website, a specialist outlet, and a marketplace-facing store, while a gift shop may operate separate sites for wholesale and direct customers. If each storefront carries different prices, promotions and stock assumptions, customers receive mixed messages and staff spend too much time correcting orders. When connected properly to ecommerce platforms, they can send consistent product prices, customer-specific discounts and promotional values to multiple online stores. The important work lies in designing the table structure and deciding which system owns each piece of data. This matters for Australian retailers because pricing must be clear in Australian dollars, GST treatment must be understood, and local sales patterns can vary sharply between Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and regional areas. A single national price may be sensible, while freight thresholds, pickup offers or seasonal promotions may need store-specific treatment. NCR Retail Online was discontinued, so businesses planning a new integration should assess supported Counterpoint partner solutions rather than assume the former service remains available. The NCR Retail Online site provides background on the product transition and points retailers towards alternatives such as Magento and WooCommerce.
Build A Clear Pricing ArchitectureStart by defining the relationship between a product, its base price and the online stores that will display it. A standard retail price might sit in one Counterpoint table, while a trade price, member price or clearance price is held in another. Each value should have a clear purpose, eligibility rule and effective date. Use stable product identifiers across Counterpoint and every ecommerce platform. SKU, barcode, size, colour and pack information must match before prices can sync reliably. A small mismatch, such as a leading zero being removed from a barcode, can cause a product to receive no price or inherit the wrong one. Australian retailers should also document whether prices are GST-inclusive at the storefront level. Consumer-facing Australian websites generally display prices in a way that makes the total payable amount clear, while business accounts may use tax-exclusive reporting. The integration should preserve that distinction rather than applying GST twice or omitting it from customer-facing values. Map Tables To Storefront RulesThe next step is mapping each pricing table to a specific channel. A primary WooCommerce store may use the everyday retail table, a wholesale portal may use a trade table, and a clearance outlet may use a reduced-price table with its own start and end dates. The mapping should be explicit, preferably in a written data dictionary that staff and developers can inspect. Avoid treating every store as identical. A Sydney flagship store might support click and collect, while a regional store depends more heavily on delivery. Those operational differences do not always justify separate product prices, but they may justify different freight thresholds, local pickup promotions or stock visibility rules. A pricing sync should send only the fields each platform needs. Product title, SKU, regular price, sale price, customer group and promotion dates are usually distinct data elements. Keeping them separate makes it easier to diagnose whether an error began in Counterpoint, the integration layer or the ecommerce platform. Manage Promotions And Price TimingPromotional pricing works best when it is scheduled in advance. A table can include a campaign code, start timestamp, end timestamp, eligible products, customer group and participating stores. This reduces the risk of a Melbourne website showing a sale after the physical campaign has finished in that market. Timing deserves particular care around Australian retail events. Boxing Day promotions, EOFY sales and school-holiday campaigns often require different preparation windows across states. Public holidays can also delay warehouse processing, so the online price should not be confused with the date an order will be dispatched. Test how each store handles regular price, sale price and an expired campaign. Some platforms retain cached values, while others calculate promotions at checkout. A controlled test should confirm the displayed price, cart price, order total, tax calculation and downstream Counterpoint record before a promotion reaches customers. Media and merchandising changes may travel through a separate workflow from price data. If a retailer is adding campaign videos to product pages, a video conversion guide can help staff prepare suitable files without confusing content updates with pricing synchronisation. Monitor Inventory, Orders And ExceptionsPrice synchronisation is only useful when it operates alongside dependable inventory and order flows. A customer may see the correct sale price but still receive an unavailable item if stock updates are delayed. Set an appropriate schedule for inventory updates, and use near-real-time processing for fast-moving products where possible. Create an exception report for missing SKUs, rejected prices, duplicate product codes, invalid dates and stores that did not receive an update. Someone should own this report each business day. During major campaigns, the check may need to run before opening and again after the first wave of orders. A central dashboard can make this oversight easier by showing the last successful sync, failed records, price differences and inventory warnings. Retailers exploring this approach can review a custom Counterpoint dashboard for ideas about combining operational data from Counterpoint and WooCommerce. Protect The Integration And Document OwnershipPricing data should move through authenticated connections with restricted permissions. The integration account generally needs access to product, price and inventory records, but it should not have unrestricted administrative rights on every storefront. Use separate credentials for development, testing and production, and rotate them according to a documented schedule. Security also covers the data surrounding a price update. Logs may contain customer identifiers, order details or internal promotion codes, so retention and access rules should be defined. Plugins and connectors must be kept current, with compatibility tested before updates are applied during a campaign. Retailers replacing older NCR Retail Online arrangements should record which responsibilities belong to Counterpoint, the integration partner and each ecommerce platform. A review of third-party security controls can help identify protections that need to be recreated when moving to Magento, WooCommerce or another supported solution. Practical Controls For A Reliable Rollout
A staged rollout is safer than switching every storefront at once. Begin with a small product group and one online store, compare the results with Counterpoint, then add customer tiers and promotions. Once the process is stable, extend it to additional stores while retaining the same test cases. The strongest arrangement treats Counterpoint as the pricing authority while allowing each ecommerce channel to handle presentation, checkout and customer experience. Exceptions should be deliberate, visible and temporary where possible. When pricing tables, inventory feeds, tax settings and security controls are aligned, multiple Australian online stores can behave like coordinated sales channels rather than separate systems competing for accurate information. The key point to remember is that successful synchronisation depends less on copying prices quickly than on defining ownership, timing and exceptions clearly before the data moves. |
