We have been analyzing the NCR Retail Online (NRO) business and our NCR Industry Solutions Board, an internal team that helps set strategy, has decided to set the NRO product to End of Life on March 31, 2018 . The CPOnline Product was also recently announced with an end of life date of September 30th, 2017 . The End of Life terms indicate that all current customers will need to be transitioned off their respective product and the servers turned off by 9/30/17 (CPO) & 3/31/18 (NRO) . Your NCR Counterpoint business partner has been notified of this decision in advance and has started taking steps to help you transition your eCommerce solution.
Next Steps
As of today, we are encouraging all customers to reach out to your current NCR Counterpoint Partner to begin the transition to a new eCommerce platform. Your partner will be your best resource in planning and transitioning to a new eCommerce solution.
NCR has worked with several partners to create options for your new eCommerce solution. Please refer to the below chart for information about these options. Your partner can provide you with further documentation about these solutions to assist you with the decision process. You can also view a list of FAQ’s about moving from NRO to one of the below options by clicking here .
We will be discussing this transition directly with the users that attend our Synergy User Conference at the end of June. We will be offering a presentation on eCommerce and we will have representatives at the exhibit booth to handle your questions. In the meantime, please reach out to your partner to help determine your next steps.
We appreciate your business and look forward to taking this next, innovative step together.

Using Staging Environments To Test Your Counterpoint IntegrationA staging environment gives retailers a safe copy of their ecommerce store, Counterpoint data, payment settings and operational workflows. It allows teams to test synchronisation, product updates and order processing before changes reach customers or alter the live point-of-sale system. This matters when an Australian retailer is connecting Counterpoint to a new web shop, replacing an older ecommerce platform or moving towards a solution such as WooCommerce or Magento. A controlled test site can expose stock, tax and fulfilment problems while there is still time to fix them.
Establish A Reliable Test CopyA useful staging environment should resemble the production setup closely. Match the Counterpoint version, ecommerce plugin or connector, catalogue structure, price levels, tax settings, shipping rules and user permissions. If the test site has different configurations, a successful result may give the team false confidence. Start by copying representative records rather than dumping every customer and transaction into the test system. Include products with variations, discontinued items, promotions, backorders, low-stock thresholds and Australian-specific pricing. Customer information should be anonymised, especially when developers or external implementation partners can access the environment. Document the date and source of the staging data. Stock quantities change quickly, so the team needs to know whether a test reflects last night’s database backup or a manual export from this morning. A short data-refresh procedure prevents people from testing against records that no longer match the live shop. Map The Counterpoint Data FlowWrite down how information travels between Counterpoint and the online store. Product descriptions, SKUs, barcodes, categories, images, prices, tax codes, stock levels and customer records may each follow different rules. Clarify which system is authoritative for every field before testing begins. A common arrangement is for Counterpoint to control inventory and retail pricing while the web platform manages online content and merchandising. That arrangement can fail when staff edit the same SKU in both systems. Test whether updates flow in one direction, in both directions or through a scheduled batch process, and record how conflicts are resolved. Pay close attention to identifiers. A product may have an internal item number, a barcode, a supplier code and a web slug. If the connector matches the wrong value, stock may be assigned to the wrong product or an order may be unable to reserve inventory. Include duplicate-looking products and items with punctuation in their codes to verify matching behaviour. Test Stock And Order ScenariosCreate test cases that reflect daily retail activity, including a customer buying the last unit online while a shop assistant sells it at the counter. Check whether the integration prevents overselling, updates availability promptly and handles a failed synchronisation. Test stock held at multiple shops if the business offers click and collect or store-based fulfilment. Orders should be tested from checkout through to dispatch and refund. Confirm that customer details, delivery addresses, discount codes, freight charges, GST and payment status arrive in Counterpoint correctly. Then verify that fulfilment, cancellation, partial shipment and refund updates return to the web store without creating duplicate orders. Australian delivery patterns deserve particular attention. A parcel sent from Melbourne to Sydney may behave differently from one going to Perth, Darwin or a regional Queensland town. Test postcode rules, Australia Post or courier services, free-shipping thresholds and click-and-collect locations. Include an apartment address and a rural address so delivery validation is tested beyond metropolitan defaults. Validate Payments, Tax And ComplianceUse payment gateway sandbox credentials in staging and confirm that successful, declined, cancelled and timed-out payments produce the right order status. A test card should never create a real capture, fulfilment request or accounting entry. Check what happens when a customer pays with a card, a digital wallet or a buy-now-pay-later service used by the business. GST needs to be tested as a business rule rather than assumed to be correct. Review tax-inclusive display prices, GST-free products, mixed baskets and freight taxation. A retailer preparing for end-of-financial-year reporting should ensure that order totals, refunds and tax amounts reconcile between Counterpoint, the ecommerce platform and accounting software. Security testing belongs in this stage as well. Confirm that API keys are stored outside public code, administrator roles are limited and customer data is protected in backups and logs. The production site should never be used for casual experiments with payment credentials or personal information. Retailers reviewing platform options can also examine the background around NCR Retail Online and its transition guidance. Rehearse Migration And ReleaseIf the project involves replacing NCR Retail Online or another legacy ecommerce system, staging should include a migration rehearsal. Import products, categories, images, customer records and order history into a separate environment, then compare counts and sample records against the source. Pay attention to URL redirects, search visibility and account access. A rehearsal should measure how long each step takes. Record the time required to export data, transform fields, load records, rebuild indexes and complete an inventory synchronisation. This helps the team choose a realistic release window, perhaps after trading hours rather than during a busy Saturday afternoon. Run a full staff walkthrough before launch. A shop worker in Brisbane, a warehouse operator in Melbourne and a customer service team member in Adelaide may each encounter different parts of the process. Ask them to create an order, reserve stock, process a return and investigate a failed sync. Their practical feedback often reveals gaps that technical checks miss. A retailer that has already changed platforms can offer useful operational context; this migration case study illustrates the kind of transition issues worth considering before a cutover. Monitor The Cutover And BeyondStaging reduces risk, but it cannot predict every production condition. Before release, create a rollback plan, take verified backups and decide who can pause synchronisation. Define the acceptance criteria in writing: stock variance must be within an agreed tolerance, test orders must reconcile, and no critical payment or tax errors may remain open. Release in controlled steps where possible. A small product range, selected store or internal customer group can provide an early signal before the entire catalogue is exposed. Watch integration queues, error logs, inventory changes, order statuses and response times closely during the first trading period. Keep a reconciliation checklist for the first few days. Compare web orders with Counterpoint sales, check stock for fast-moving items and review refunds, cancellations and click-and-collect notifications. Australian events such as Click Frenzy, Boxing Day promotions and EOFY sales can create unusual traffic and order volumes, so load testing should cover those peaks when relevant. The central lesson is simple: staging should reproduce the real retail workflow closely enough to expose failures, while keeping real customers, payments and inventory safe. Test the data mapping, stock movement, checkout, GST, fulfilment, security and recovery process as one connected system. A Counterpoint integration is ready for production when the team can explain what happens to every important record from the first product update to the final refund. |
