Overview: This article will explain how to embed a video on a category page using static blocks.
Using static blocks to embed a video on a Category Page
When embedding a video on a category page the video will need to be hosted. Videos can be hosted on sites like YouTube or Vimeo.
Once the video is uploaded, get the embed code. This can be found in YouTube by clicking the Share button
In Vimeo the embed code can be found by clicking on the paper airplane icon at the top right of the video:
In the NRO Admin Panel go to
CMS / Static Blocks
and click on
Add New Block
at the top right. Give the Block a
Name
and
Identifier
. Specify unique values for each field. These values can be anything that will help easily identify them. Click the Show / Hide Editor button.
Enter in the following snippet to center the image in the page and place the embed code from the video hosting site between them:
<div style:"text-align:center">
Place embed code here
</div>
It should look like this when complete:
Once the code has been entered, click
Save
at the top right.

After the Static Block has been created, the Category has to be updated with new Display Settings. Go to
Catalog / Manage Categories
and click on the Category from the list on the left
Click on the
Display Settings
tab at the top and set the
Display Mode
to
Static block and products
. Choose the Static Block that you created above in the
CMS Block
drop-down list. Once this has been set, click on
Save Category
at the top right.
TIP:
If a category image is set in Counterpoint it will display above the now embedded video. If the video should be the only thing at the top of the Category page, edit the Category in Counterpoint under
Setup / Ecommerce / Categories
and remove the image and do an add/replace publish. When the Integration Agent picks up the publish and it is processed in NRO, the Category image will no longer be there and the video will be displayed at the top of the page.
