Item Images

Overview

To explain some image specifics to help you get the best quality form your images. Populating your online store with high-quality product images can make a big difference in whether shoppers purchase items from you or from someone else. Use clear, quality images.

Image Guidelines

Item images should follow these basic guidelines:
  • Format: Images can be .jpg or .gif. For easier setup, use either .jpg or .gif images.
  • Reduce files sizes. File size per image should be approximately 20KB to 50KB to allow pages to load quickly and minimize your bandwidth costs. Most graphics software has a ‘save for web' option to help reduce file size.
  • Image resolution should be 72 dpi (the highest resolution viewable on the web).

Counterpoint: Inventory / Items

By default, Counterpoint uses the item number plus .jpg as the name of the corresponding image. We recommend using the item number as the image name. This method significantly reduces setup time because you can skip the manual assignment of the image file name field in the item record. If you have multiple images for your items or you have gridded items with colors, you should read the article Creating Multiple Images for an Item.

Uploading Item Images

We recommend using the Integration agent to upload a single, large image, which will then be automatically scaled. It is recommended you limit your overall image size to 664w x 800h. NRO will take this single image, and re-size as needed for the other primary image sizes. Requirements for alternate and swatch images will be covered in a later topic. To be properly associate the image to the item in your store, please us the naming format of [ITEMNUMBER].jpg. (ex. BIKE-170.jpg). Uploading your images automatically, is as simple as placing them in a directory so that the Integration Agent can send them to NRO for you.

First, locate your ItemImagesNRO directory:

Windows XP - C:\ProgramFiles\RadiantSystems\CounterPoint\CPSQL.1\TopLevel\<StoreName>\Configuration\ItemImagesNRO
Windows 7 - C:\Program Files(x86)\RadiantSystems\CounterPoint\CPSQL.1\TopLevel\<StoreName>\Configuration\ItemImagesNRO

These are the default installation paths for Counterpoint and may differ based on how your system was installed. Copy your item images into the ItemImagesNRO directory, and when the Integration Agent polls for new files, it will pull the image in, and take care of the resizing for you. If the Integration Agent finds a file of the same name with a newer date and timestamp, it will automatically import that image into NRO.

If you are currently prepping your Counterpoint system, and have not installed the Integration agent, following these steps will ensure your images are ready to upload when you are ready to install the Integration Agent.
