We have been analyzing the NCR Retail Online (NRO) business and our NCR Industry Solutions Board, an internal team that helps set strategy, has decided to set the NRO product to End of Life on March 31, 2018 . The CPOnline Product was also recently announced with an end of life date of September 30th, 2017 . The End of Life terms indicate that all current customers will need to be transitioned off their respective product and the servers turned off by 9/30/17 (CPO) & 3/31/18 (NRO) . Your NCR Counterpoint business partner has been notified of this decision in advance and has started taking steps to help you transition your eCommerce solution.
Next Steps
As of today, we are encouraging all customers to reach out to your current NCR Counterpoint Partner to begin the transition to a new eCommerce platform. Your partner will be your best resource in planning and transitioning to a new eCommerce solution.

Your partner can provide you with further documentation about these solutions to assist you with the decision process. You can also view a list of FAQ’s about moving from NRO to one of the below options by clicking here .
We will be discussing this transition directly with the users that attend our Synergy User Conference at the end of June. We will be offering a presentation on eCommerce and we will have representatives at the exhibit booth to handle your questions. In the meantime, please reach out to your partner to help determine your next steps.
We appreciate your business and look forward to taking this next, innovative step together.

Training Teams To Use Unified Order Lookup ToolsCustomer service teams work best when they can see the whole customer journey in one place. A unified order lookup tool brings together web orders, store purchases, fulfilment updates, returns, payments and customer notes, so staff do not have to search through separate systems while a customer waits. For Australian retailers, this matters across a wide range of delivery and collection situations. A shopper in Brisbane may need an Australia Post tracking update, a customer in regional Western Australia may be waiting on a slower freight route, and someone in Melbourne may want to exchange an online purchase at a nearby shop. Good training helps agents handle these cases with speed, accuracy and a calm “no worries” attitude. Define What A Complete Order View ContainsBegin by explaining the purpose of the lookup screen before teaching individual buttons. Staff should understand that the tool is a single service workspace, not merely a faster order-number search. A useful customer record may show the order source, payment status, stock location, fulfilment method, dispatch date, tracking number, delivery address, return eligibility and previous contacts. Create a clear vocabulary for the team. “Authorised” is different from “captured”; “allocated” is different from “packed”; and “shipped” does not always mean “delivered”. This prevents agents from making promises based on an incomplete status. It is also important to distinguish a cancelled line from a cancelled order, particularly when a customer has received part of a split shipment. Use realistic Australian examples in practice sessions. A customer may have selected Click and Collect from a Sydney or Adelaide store, chosen home delivery during an EOFY promotion, or placed an order containing goods from two warehouses. Trainers should show how GST-inclusive pricing, suburb names and unit numbers appear in the record, as address details can affect courier handover and delivery timing. Build A Repeatable Lookup ConversationA reliable service interaction follows a sequence. First verify the customer using approved details, such as the order reference, email address, postcode or other secure identifier. Next confirm which product or transaction they mean, then read the current status back in plain English. Only after that should the agent investigate a delay, amend an eligible order or begin a return. Role-play should include customers who provide incomplete information. Someone may say, “I ordered it last week,” while the system contains several purchases. Teach agents to search progressively rather than guessing: start with the customer profile, narrow by date or channel, and confirm the item before discussing payment or delivery. If no record appears, staff should check spelling, guest checkout records and marketplace or phone-order channels without exposing internal details. A good script sounds natural rather than robotic. “I can see the order was packed yesterday and the tracking link has not received its first scan yet” is more useful than “It is processing.” Agents should also explain the next action and timeframe, record the conversation in the shared profile and avoid asking the customer to repeat information already visible to the team. Train For Exceptions And PrivacyThe value of an integrated lookup system becomes clearest when an order goes wrong. Build exercises around partial fulfilment, duplicate payments, failed delivery attempts, stock substitutions, refund delays and click-and-collect orders that have not been collected. Include a regional scenario, such as a parcel moving between Perth and a remote town, where a carrier estimate may be less precise than a metropolitan delivery window. Teach escalation rules alongside lookup skills. An agent may be able to resend a receipt or explain a tracking event, while a supervisor may need to approve a refund, release stock or investigate a payment mismatch. The system should make ownership visible, with notes that state what happened, what the customer was told and who must act next. Security needs equal attention. Staff should never read out a full card number, disclose another person’s address or change delivery details without verification. When a customer calls from a shared household phone, identity checks still apply. Training should cover screen privacy, secure notes and the correct handling of requests involving gift orders, account access or suspected fraud. Connect Lookup Skills With Store OperationsA customer service platform is only as trustworthy as the information flowing into it. Explain how point-of-sale activity, warehouse management, ecommerce orders, inventory counts and courier updates affect the record. If a store sells the last unit after an online order is placed, the service team needs to know whether the stock figure is delayed, reserved or genuinely unavailable. This is especially important when a retailer changes platforms or connects an online shop to a new inventory system. Businesses moving away from NCR Retail Online can review migration lessons to identify common gaps in data mapping, staff routines and customer communication. Training should reflect the actual configuration rather than an idealised demonstration account. Automated operations can help maintain consistency, but automation does not remove the need for judgement. Order confirmations, low-stock alerts, dispatch emails and refund notifications should support the agent’s explanation. Retailers considering Magento, WooCommerce or another platform through a Counterpoint partner should test whether customer service staff can see the same order status that warehouse and store teams rely on. Measure Confidence And Keep It CurrentAssess training with short, observable tasks rather than a single quiz. Ask each team member to locate an order, verify the customer, explain its status, identify the correct policy and leave a useful note. A coach can score accuracy, privacy compliance, clarity and whether the agent selected the right escalation path. Run these checks across channels. A phone agent may handle a complex delivery call, while a live-chat agent may need to manage several lookup windows without mixing customer records. Include after-hours scenarios and public-holiday delays, since Australian trading calendars can change fulfilment expectations around Christmas, Easter and state-based holidays. Regular reviews are essential because integrations and policies change. Analyse repeat contacts, avoidable escalations, refund errors and cases where customers were given conflicting information. Automated workflows remain valuable when they are monitored carefully; guidance on why automated operations matter can help managers connect system reliability with service outcomes. Coaching Aids For Daily PracticeUse a compact checklist during observation:
Reinforce the behaviours that prevent repeat contacts:
A practical rollout can start with one store group and one online fulfilment team. Collect examples from Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and regional customers, then adjust scripts for delivery windows, collection rules and carrier variations. The next step is to schedule a 30-minute coaching session using three real anonymised orders: one straightforward delivery, one split shipment and one return requiring escalation. |
