We have been analyzing the NCR Retail Online (NRO) business and our NCR Industry Solutions Board, an internal team that helps set strategy, has decided to set the NRO product to End of Life on March 31, 2018 . The CPOnline Product was also recently announced with an end of life date of September 30th, 2017 . The End of Life terms indicate that all current customers will need to be transitioned off their respective product and the servers turned off by 9/30/17 (CPO) & 3/31/18 (NRO) . Your NCR Counterpoint business partner has been notified of this decision in advance and has started taking steps to help you transition your eCommerce solution.

Recreating NCR’s Quick-Add Order Workflow for Wholesale CustomersWholesale buyers need a faster path than a standard retail checkout. They often know product codes, pack sizes, negotiated prices and delivery requirements before opening an online store. Recreating NCR’s Quick-Add Order Workflow for Wholesale Customers therefore means rebuilding a practical order-entry tool, not simply adding a search box to a new ecommerce site. Learn more about How To Estimate Required Dish Size Using Satpointer S Database 50bc. NCR Retail Online has been discontinued, so businesses moving away from the old platform may need to recreate familiar workflows on Magento, WooCommerce or another system supported by an NCR Counterpoint partner. The key is to preserve the speed and accuracy of the original process while improving stock visibility, account controls and payment handling. What Wholesale Quick Add Must SolveA useful quick-add screen should let a customer enter several SKUs in one session, specify quantities, review availability and add the complete selection to a cart. Buyers should not have to open individual product pages repeatedly. A spreadsheet-style layout, barcode input and paste-from-clipboard support can make a substantial difference for trade customers placing recurring orders. Wholesale accounts also need customer-specific rules. The same item might have a different price for a retailer in Sydney, a hospitality supplier in Brisbane or a regional business ordering pallet quantities. The workflow should apply contract pricing, minimum order quantities, case-pack rules, tax settings and freight thresholds before the buyer reaches payment. Error handling needs careful attention. An invalid product code should be flagged beside the relevant line, while a discontinued item should offer a replacement or prompt the buyer to contact the account team. Silent substitutions create costly mistakes, especially when orders contain hundreds of units or need to arrive before an Australian public holiday. Preserve Counterpoint Data And Account LogicThe first step is to map the data that powered the previous workflow. This usually includes product identifiers, customer records, stock locations, price levels, supplier details, sales history and order status. A migration plan should distinguish between information that must remain operational and older records that can be archived for reporting. NCR Counterpoint may remain the system of record for stock and customer accounts while the replacement storefront manages browsing and order entry. The integration must define how often inventory synchronises, which system owns pricing, and how backorders or partial fulfilment are represented. The NCR Retail Online platform provides useful context for the discontinued service and the transition to alternative ecommerce arrangements. Australian businesses should also verify tax and address data during migration. Prices may be displayed in Australian dollars, GST-inclusive or GST-exclusive depending on the account type, and delivery addresses can include suburbs, rural localities and remote-area surcharges. ABN details and business names should pass cleanly into invoices and exports. Design A Fast, Familiar Order ScreenThe strongest replacement usually starts with a compact order-entry panel. Each row can contain SKU, product description, pack quantity, unit price, available stock and requested quantity. Buyers should be able to add a row with the keyboard, paste multiple lines from a purchasing spreadsheet and save a frequently ordered list for later. Search should accept more than a formal product name. Wholesale customers may know an internal code, manufacturer number, barcode or shorthand used by their staff. Autocomplete results should show pack size and stock status, because selecting a single unit when a carton is required can distort both price and fulfilment. The cart should retain the quick-add context. Buyers need to see whether a line was priced from a contract catalogue, whether a minimum quantity has been met and whether an item will ship from a different warehouse. A clear review stage reduces support calls while keeping the workflow faster than a conventional retail journey. Choose The Right Replacement ArchitectureThe best technical approach depends on the existing Counterpoint setup, the complexity of account pricing and the expected order volume. A lightweight integration may suit a smaller distributor, while a multi-warehouse operation may need middleware, queued synchronisation and more advanced customer permissions.
Magento can support detailed customer groups, shared catalogues and approval processes, making it suitable for distributors with complex pricing. WooCommerce may be faster to deploy when the catalogue is manageable and a Counterpoint partner can provide reliable connectors. A custom portal offers the closest recreation of the old experience, but it requires disciplined documentation and long-term support. Connect Payments And Protect TransactionsQuick order entry should not weaken payment controls. The site needs a secure handoff to the payment gateway, clear handling for card declines and a sensible alternative for approved accounts that pay by invoice. A customer may submit an order for review rather than pay immediately, so order status must distinguish authorised, pending, held and paid transactions. Payment gateway configuration should be tested against the new storefront and Counterpoint processes. Guidance on integrating payment gateways can help teams identify the points where payment confirmation, order creation and inventory reservation need to align. Security work should cover administrator access, customer permissions, audit trails, rate limiting and protection against automated order abuse. Teams reviewing encryption claims can also consult this explanation of AES-256 file encryption, while remembering that encrypted data storage does not replace secure application design, gateway tokenisation or careful credential management. Test The Workflow In Real ConditionsA staging environment should reproduce the situations that create wholesale friction. Testing only a successful order with one product will miss the problems that appear when stock changes between synchronisation cycles or when a buyer orders mixed cartons. Useful operational checks include:
Australian delivery patterns deserve specific attention. A Melbourne customer may expect metropolitan next-day freight, while a business outside Perth or Darwin may need a longer lead time and a different carrier calculation. Test postcode rules, rural surcharges, cut-off times, currency display and dispatch pauses around Christmas, Easter and the end of the financial year. The buyer-facing experience should also be tested with real staff rather than only developers. Ask sales representatives and warehouse users to recreate common orders from spreadsheets, phone notes and previous invoices. Their observations often reveal confusing labels, missing pack-size information or an unnecessary checkout step. Operational acceptance should confirm:
Keep Migration Practical For Existing CustomersA staged launch reduces disruption. Businesses can begin with a small group of wholesale accounts, compare the new order totals against Counterpoint, and expand after pricing and stock results are trusted. A temporary dual-running period may be worthwhile for high-value customers, provided staff know which system is authoritative. Customers should receive clear guidance on saved lists, login changes, minimum order quantities and delivery estimates. Some may have relied on a familiar NCR screen for years, so preserving labels and common actions can reduce resistance. Internal teams also need scripts for explaining discontinued features and resolving orders that were started before the migration. The replacement should be measured against practical outcomes: time to place a repeat order, number of line-entry errors, support contacts, payment failures and stock discrepancies. These measures show whether the new platform has genuinely recreated the efficient parts of the former workflow rather than simply reproducing its appearance. A dependable wholesale quick-add process combines structured product data, live inventory, account-aware pricing, Australian tax and freight rules, and secure payment orchestration. The feature succeeds when a buyer can enter a familiar list quickly and receive an accurate order without staff intervention. What readers should remember is that the workflow is a connected business process, not a single ecommerce screen. |
