Overview: This article will discuss how to use static blocks and widgets to create a reminder on your checkout page for customers.
Creating the Static Block
The first step to creating the reminder is to build the content. This will be your message, whether it be formatted text or even an image.
In the admin panel, select
CMS > Static Blocks
, then click the button in the upper right to
Add New Block
. There are four main areas to modify when creating a static block:
1) Block Title - This is the plain text way of titling your block.
2) Identifier - How the block is identified within NRO's block structure.
3) Status - Whether the block is enabled or disabled.
4) Content - Where you build the content of your block.
For this example, a static block was created with some basic content. The static block content section offers the WYSIWYG editor, and the content can be designed and built in any manner you choose similar to creating an extra page on the site. Once done, click on the
Save Block
button.
Creating the Widget
Next, go to
CMS > Widgets
, and click on
Add New Widget Instance
. A new screen will appear prompting for type and theme. We will be selecting CMS Static Block for our type, as that is where the content is, and the theme section will be default / celebrity. Once completed, click the Continue button.
The settings will update, and a few new fields will appear. The only thing that needs to be added to this section is a title for the Widget.
Underneath the Frontend Properties section, is the Layout Updates section. This is where selections will be made where the static block should be placed. Click on the button listed as
Add Layout Update
. A series of option will appear, and the options below are the recommended settings for setting up the reminder. These settings dictate where the static block will display on the checkout page.
Once the settings are in place, click on the Save button in the upper right. NRO will now require the system cache be refreshed as some design changes have been made. The message at the top of the admin panel can be clicked to go to Cache Management, or the screen can be accessed by going to
System > Cache Management
. Simply click on the Refresh button the page to complete the update.
With the static block and widget completed, the checkout should show the content created. Using the information above, here is an example of how it might look when completed:
