Summary:
Provides merchants an understanding of what needs to happen when using the
System / Cache Management / Flush Catalog Images
Cache
button. If item images are not displaying the new uploaded images, the Image Cache may need to be flushed.
Solution:
Sometimes when replacing product images for item images that were previously uploaded to NRO, it is necessary to flush the image cache. If the image cache isn't purged after the Integration Agent uploads the image, the old image will continue to display in your NRO storefront.
When catalog cache is manually purged, the links to the product images will change. Magento, the ecommerce engine for NCR Retail Online, serves up images in a smart way. It caches the product images in multiple directories. This allows the images and the pages load more quickly.
When image cache is purged, a new copy of the original image is created in all of those multiple directories, and those directories might not be the same ones where the "old” copy of where the images lived. This could pose a problem, if you're subscribed to outside services that build and submit product feeds to search engines for the purpose of Search Engine Marketing. If the image cache is manually purged, it will be necessary to provide a new feed to the services that utilize image links to your products. You can manually generate your feeds, as often as you need.
The NCR professional services team can provide an extension that allows you to submit product feeds to multiple SEM.
If you already have the Feed Pro extension
, please:
Do not
try to generate the feed, when your NRO store is processing a publish file.
Always click the
Flush Magento Cache
and the
Flush Cache Storage
, right
before
generating the feed. This will prevent your feed from appending to itself, which would result in duplicate entries.
Of course, once you generate your feed, you'll want your feed submission sites to fetch the new feed. Or, you can download it to your computer and then manually upload it to your feed submission sites.
