Allowing Shoppers to Browse by Brand

Purpose:
This article will explain how to pass Brand to NRO. Providing Brand is not only beneficial, from a usability perspective, but also is a required attribute in Google Product feed submissions.
Solution:
The default Counterpoint item record field that is used to publish brand to NRO is the Vendor field. However, most people put their supplier into that field. If you are a merchant that puts your supplier into the Vendor field of your item records, you do not need to change that field. Instead, you should set up a profile code to pass Brand to NRO.

In Counterpoint, go to Setup / System / Quick Setup and turn on the first available alphanumeric profile code. Change the display label to BRAND. Now there will be a field in item records on the profiles tab labeled, "BRAND." Into that field, enter the BRAND for each item.

The way you get BRAND to publish to NRO is to map it into the vendor source field of the Ecommerce Control file. Go to Setup / Ecommerce / Control . Open the Items tab. Map Vendor Source to the BRAND profile code.

Suppressing Brands in the Storefront

If you don't wish to display any Brands in the filtered navigation on the category pages, you can optionally suppress all brands in your storefront. In NRO Admin Panel, go to Catalog / Attributes / Manage Attributes and select the Brands attribute. Then change the following fields to No :
  • Comparable on Front-end
  • Use In Layered Navigation
  • Use In Search Results Layered Navigation
  • Used for Sorting in Product Listing
