Can I Edit or Change the Import/Export Files Produced by NCR Counterpoint and/or NRO?

Purpose:
This article explains whether or not the exchange files between NRO and NCR Counterpoint can be altered.
Solution:
If you open the exchange files that NRO and NCR Counterpoint use that contain customer, item and order information, you'll likely recognize some of the data and its purpose.  Although technically you can edit those files, we strongly advise against it!  Doing so could cause import errors, both on the NCR Counterpoint side and the NRO side.
If you need to change something about an item or customer or order, then it is best to do that in NCR Counterpoint and then publish those changes back to NRO.
TIP:
The customer's email address is considered one of the things that make up the primary key to a customer account in NRO. Once a customer has been published to NRO, the email address no longer updates.  That is because you wouldn't want to accidentally write over something the customer could have changed.
Therefore, if you need to update a customer's email address, you should change the information in NCR Counterpoint and then manually change the information in NRO also.  Or, you could simply ask the customer to change the information themselves by editing their online account.
