Purpose:
To explain how show brands in layered navigation versus vendor information.
Solution:
NRO will populate the Brand header of layered navigation with your vendor by default. For the example in the article, we will be using a video game whose vendor is
2K Games
and the brand will be
Gearbox Software
.
In Counterpoint, the item record should have a
Primary Vendor
field and will look like this:
You may also note there is no place in the item record to enter in brand so that the information can be reflected in your online store.
On the NRO side, we can see that the
Primary Vendor
field is being used for the brand instead of the actual brand of the product:
To get around this, we need to create an
Item Attribute
that will be used to represent the item's brand. To do this, inside Counterpoint, go to
Setup > System > Quick Setup
and select the
Items
tab.
In this example, I selected the
Item Attribute 2
field, but you can use any open attribute field you like. I have named the attribute field
Brand
as well.
Next, we need to head over to the Ecommerce Control file by going to
Setup > Ecommerce > Control
and selecting the
Items
tab. While on this time, please change the
Vendor Source
field to your new brand attribute. Save your settings when complete.
The next step to add a brand code your items. Open up an item by going to
Inventory
>
Items
and search for your item. Once your item is open, select the
Description
tab. You should see a new field at the bottom of the description field.
For this example I have already created my brand code called "Gearbox" for this item. All you will need to do is click on the magnifying glass, select add, and name your brand code.
Once the item has a brand code associated to it, republish the item, and you should be seeing results like below:
