Summary:
Some merchants want to limit the purchase quantity of an item per order. This article explains where to find that setting both globally and on the item level.
Solution:
There is both a global setting and an item level setting to manage the number of items allowed per line item in the shopping cart. The following instructions will describe how to edit the global configuration. In the NRO admin panel, go to System > Configuration > Catalog section > Inventory tab > Product Stock Options panel > Maximum Qty Allowed in Shopping Cart. Enter the number allowed of a single item added per cart.
For the item level setting, quantity per line is only available to edit on Simple products. If your item is a gridded item in Counterpoint, it will publish over to NRO as a single Configurable item type and then the options for the grid cell combinations will publish as Simple products. There could be many Simple products that represent the grid combinations set up in Counterpoint. Additionally, if your item in Counterpoint is one with alternate units of measure (each versus pack versus case), it will publish to NRO as a single Grouped item and then the alternate units of measure for the item will appear as Simple products.
The easiest way to find an item in your catalog is to filter the results using the headers that can be seen in the Manage Products list view. In NRO, under the navigation menu that is present across the top of the admin panel, select Catalog > Manage Products. The Counterpoint item number is published from Counterpoint to NRO and is present in the field called, SKU. If you don't have SKU as a column under Catalog > Manage Products, you can add that to your list view by going to System > Configuration > NCR Retail Online section > Enhanced Product Grid tab > Column Options.
To select the column headers to see in the Catalog > Products list view, hold the Control key on your keyboard and click the fields you wish to see in the filtered results. Then, save your additions.
The Simple items are the versions of the Counterpoint item number that will need to be edited. Under Catalog > Manage Products, enter the Counterpoint item number into the SKU filter row. Click the Search button in the upper right corner of the menu. If the item is not gridded nor is an item with alternate units of measure, you can open the details of the Simple product by clicking into the row containing the result you seek. When looking at the item's details, there will be tabs present on the left side of the item record. On the inventory tab, the global setting for the Maximum Qty Allowed in Shopping Cart setting can be overridden by unchecking the Use Config Settings box and then entering in the new maximum allowed.
If you have several Simple products to update, as in the case of a gridded or items with alternate units of measure, you can apply this same change in a single step.
From the list view results, select all Simple items by placing checkmarks in all of the Simple items that belong to the Counterpoint item you wish to change. This is the farthest column on the left side of the menu. Once selected, change the Actions drop menu in the upper right corner to Update Attributes:
Now, click the Submit button. On the Inventory tab, repeat the above steps for changing the Maximum Qty Allowed in Shopping Cart setting. Then, click the Save button in the upper right corner.
