Overview: This article will discuss how to add custom options to products via the NRO admin panel.
Adding Custom Options
Custom options in NRO allow a merchant to add small extras on the item level. For this example, an option for a monogram on a shirt will be created to showcase one of the potential extras.
Please note that these custom options will not download with an order into Counterpoint. Any custom options selected will only be viewable via the admin panel. This is especially the case for text information inserted on the item level such as hemming instructions, monogram information, etc. A note will be placed in the order header that when viewed in Counterpoint will state that there are notes on the order that can be viewed online.
1) While inside the admin panel, go to
Catalog > Manage Products
.
2) Choosing the product to add options to can be a bit difficult, but here are some ways to ensure the correct core product is selected:
If the item in Counterpoint does not have alternate units, nor is it gridded, it will display as a
Simple Product
in the catalog.
If the item in Counterpoint is gridded, the core item will display as a
Configurable Product
in the catalog.
When configurable products are uploaded, the core item acts as the parent product, and each alternate unit / grid cell option is uploaded as a simple product that acts as a child item. The parent and child items are linked together in the catalog so that they will display correctly in the store front, and associate to the appropriate item number when imported into Counterpoint.
Items with alternate units of measure (grouped items) DO NOT support custom options.
1) Once the product has been selected, open it up, and select the Custom Options tab from the left side menu.
2) Click on the
Add New Option
button in the upper right.
3) The tab will change to display the customer options selector.
4) After titling the option, an input type is presented. This input type will dictate how the customer interacts with the option.
5) For this example, a text area will be selected for the monogram information. As this is a specialized item, if you would like to make the field required, the option can force the customer to enter in information prior to being able to add it to the cart.
6) Sort order is not a required. If there are multiple custom options entered, a number can be entered in the sort order field to dictate in which order the options will appear on the product page.
7) After the text area has been selected, more options will become available such as price, price type, SKU, and the maximum number characters that can be entered into the text area.
Do not enter anything into the SKU field. If the custom option has anything entered into the SKU field, the import will fail. It is important to
leave the SKU field blank
.
10) When finished adding custom options, click the save button at the top. When products are altered, the NRO cache will need to be updated. A notification will display at the top of the admin panel indicating this. The cache can be refresh can be updated after making multiple changes, it is not necessary to do after each individual change.
11) Once the options have been saved and cache updated, the options should be appearing on the item level in the storefront.
When entering in data into the field, the cost of the custom option will be automatically added to the cost.
